Evaluation

I feel as though my final piece supported the intention and message I wanted to portray. I found the process a little challenging, especially when deciding on gestures to portray the older character in a clear and understanding way, however after brainstorming ideas; I successfully created some actions to convey the story line in order to link back to the stimulus. Another section of the process I felt was difficult was trying to remain my facial expressions and intention in my movement the whole way through rehearsals. To allow the intention to become consistent, I filmed myself performing the piece and noticed when there was an absence of intention, then I would go over the piece and exaggerate my performance in these certain sections so that there was more of a chance of performing in the manner I planned for.(P//) I believe that I performed well with intention and facial expressions, however I feel as though I could’ve showed the feeling of self-love with more of a warm and comfo...

Further Creative Development

Overall I feel as though the message of my piece was delivered well, the intention of my performance as previously mentioned, is about the journey of self-acceptance whilst growing old and aging. The message is that even when our body’s are aging and going through change, we shouldn’t be ashamed or disheartened by it because its natural and beauty can be found within it. The piece is around the topic of finding self-love and demonstrating that it isn’t an easy process, however it has a more in depth idea to it because it’s based on a certain point of life of change which isn’t commonly spoken about. I adapted the gestures through the process so that the characteristic of an older person was visible; since some feedback I received was that, it was difficult to understand the character I ...

Critique 3: Wayne McGregor's 'Infra' (final duet)

Image
The final duet in ‘Infra’ by Wayne McGregor made me feel sympathy and hurt from observing this pas de duex. The piece had this impact on me because they often had a facial expression of pain, which caused me to feel concerned for the dancers as I felt the expression came from within since the emotion was even carried in their movement. An example of this is when Marianela Nuñez reaches out to grab on to her partner Edward Watson, this makes me feel as though she is desperate for his comfort. (P//) The dancers performed movement in a balletic yet contemporary manner, there was a lot of spinal motion involved and it was often caused by the other partner in the pas de duex due with a manipulative motion. To link to this, the movement was intimate and contained a lot of chemistry between the two dancers, their movement was very intriguing to watch as the way the pair connected was in a creative and adventurous style, using lifts which unravel into another affectionate sequences. The conte...
