Further Creative Development

Overall I feel as though the message of my piece was delivered well, the intention of my performance as previously mentioned, is about the journey of self-acceptance whilst growing old and aging. The message is that even when our body’s are aging and going through change, we shouldn’t be ashamed or disheartened by it because its natural and beauty can be found within it. The piece is around the topic of finding self-love and demonstrating that it isn’t an easy process, however it has a more in depth idea to it because it’s based on a certain point of life of change which isn’t commonly spoken about. (P//) I feel as though the movement helped tell the story of an older woman finding changes in herself, as there were many gestures and poor posture movements which referred to the aging of a person. I adapted the gestures through the process so that the characteristic of an older person was visible; since some feedback I received was that, it was difficult to understand the character I was playing was of old age. I believe that facial expressions can truly assist the clarity of the message, I used an expression of confusion and fear for the majority of the performance to portray the discomfort one might have when they feel as though they are less able to do activities that younger people may be able to complete.(P//) I developed the choreography towards the end of the choreography to embody the posture of an elderly lady, and by doing this I changed my posture to be more hunched and replaced the jumps to a static position because a jump or leap doesn’t portray the character of an older woman. In the process of adapting my piece into the role of an elder lady, I found it fairly easy as for most of it I just crouched over a little more.
