Continued Creative Development

Image
Recently I have been making choreography for the last section of my piece and I have thoroughly enjoyed creating this segment. I found it was the easiest to link back to my stimuli as some current feedback I have received was to make the movement more intentional and to be able to understand the characters situation. Therefore when creating my movement I used choreographic devices such as accumulation, to represent forgetfulness when growing old, as I used a sequence repeatedly and changed the direction so that the loss of memory was easily portrayed. I also included repetition because I felt that finding acceptance in yourself is something that is gradual and is not a sudden process. I have included a variety of levels which also link back to the stimulus, as at the start I shake a Polaroid picture so that it forms the image taken by the camera and at the end of my performance I kneel to the floor to pick it up. I also use a generous amount of Contemporary style floor work as I feel i...

Critique 2- Wayne McGregor's 'Woolf Works'

The piece ‘Woolf Works’ by Wayne McGregor was an engaging piece to watch, it made me feel sympathy, anxious and distress because Alessandra Feri (the principal dancer) takes us on an emotional journey with her character. Her character informs the audience at the start of the performance that she has a disease which she is battling and faces a dilemma where she wants her partner to leave her before this illness takes her away from him. This was delivered through a voiceover that starts the piece with Feri standing in front of a projected picture of the ocean, before her partner, joins her to start a sequence. I felt sympathy because at a certain point in the performance a group of children joins the woman on stage along with a young girl who comforts the woman, where the children are playing and laughing, and the woman appears isolated from them. It created a lonesome atmosphere even though there were laughing sound effects and the children were enjoying themselves, therefore this is a ...

Creative Development: a reflection On My Process So Far

I have chosen to make certain decisions for my choreography carefully and have put a lot of thought into what they will portray. For example, with the music I looked into having clock themed music for my piece however most of the pieces I found felt too dramatic for the atmosphere I wanted to create. I then came to the decision of choosing a light hearted and jazz genre piece of music called Instrumental 1 by Viewfinder(Viewfinder,2020), since at the end of the piece I want the audience to see my character accepting the inevitability of growing old and that it shouldn’t be viewed as a negative thing. The rhythm and beats are very inconsistent in my music, however there are no dramatic changes to the music and I really enjoy this because it conveys that growing old is something that occurs gradually and it isn’t a sudden change.(P//) I have also decided to include a variety of choreographic devices into my performance to get the message of, acceptance in growing old, across to the audi...

Critique 1- Wayne McGregor's piece Atomos

My first thoughts on Wayne McGregor’s piece Atomos were that it includes intriguing and unpredictable movement, as I expected since McGregor stated that he enjoys finding new ways to create choreography (CnnEnglishNews011, 2013). I couldn’t see a clear story line or message in the piece, however I feel as though it didn’t impact the way I felt about the performance since the movement filled me with curiosity and wonder. The movement used in this performance was very unique and abstract which I really enjoyed to watch as an audience member, it included many duets, solos and group sections which were really inspiring to watch. This was highlighted especially in the duet sections when you could clearly see the connection and bond between the dancers movement, in the sense of mimicking each other whilst being on different levels or in opposite directions. Many duets were incorporated throughout the piece and the majority of them had a feeling of manipulation or one performer was controlli...
